Supporting Your Emotional Well-Being
Affinity Practice is a unique psychiatry practice with an emphasis on prevention and a comprehensive, holistic approach to care.
Integrative
Integrative medicine is a patient-centered, healing-oriented approach that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of life. At Affinity Practice we take time to understand your unique circumstances, going beyond the treatment of symptoms to address the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that affect health. We also focus on prevention and foster the development of healthy behaviors and skills for effective self-care that you can use throughout your life.

Medicine
Sometimes medications are indicated and can be a powerful and synergistic tool in a comprehensive treatment approach. We have many years of experience with these pharmacological interventions and will thoughtfully consider risks, benefits, your medical history and other medicines you might be taking before making a recommendation. We are also able to provide genetic-based laboratory testing that analyzes a person’s DNA and matches it with known pharmacology about how medications work to further develop your individualized treatment. However, the need, efficacy and outcome of medication can only be assessed in the context of the client’s life situation. For that reason, you will never experience a 15-minute medication check.
Therapy
Talk therapy is a central part of the treatment of psychological disorders. It can also be tremendously helpful when navigating a difficult decision or situation, or when simply trying to improve communications and habits to enhance relationships, work performance, or develop greater intention and meaning to our lives. There are many different approaches to talk therapy, such as cognitive therapy, supportive therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. We tailor talk therapy to your personal needs, often blending different elements for the most effective and comprehensive approach.

Lifestyle
The importance of good nutrition, physical activity, play, and rest for mental health is well established and yet we often ignore or neglect these fundamentals in our busy and stressful lives. At Affinity Practice, we spend time educating you on these foundational elements, explore areas for improvement and work with you to establish a plan for progress.
Spirituality
One of the most protective factors for emotional health is having a spiritual life. From the belief in a higher power, to the messages, teachings and spiritual practices reflected in many religions, spirituality offers perspective and hope, wise instruction on character and behavior, and practical strategies to contend with the inevitable struggles of the human experience. We will intentionally ask about your perspective on faith because we believe that it should be explored and considered in a comprehensive treatment plan. However, we understand that belief in God is not shared by all and will always honor and respect the client’s view on faith.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness, the practice of intentionally staying in the present moment with non-judgmental awareness, has significant benefits for conditions such as anxiety and depression. At Affinity Practice we can teach you the qualities of mindfulness to develop this moment-by-moment awareness that can enhance your ability to recognize and respond to thoughts and feelings in a manner that reduces stress.
